Norseman to Balladonia

Posted by Travel

The route southwest of the gold zones beaches and leads you from Perth to Norseman, where the journey begins. Come admire the life-size monuments dedicated to the memory of camel caravans, before continuing east along the Eyre Highway. Roll among the woods of Dundas Nature Reserve and climb the scenic granite hills of the chain of Fraser Range, which are surrounded by the largest eucalyptus hardwood forest in the world. Walk among the giant eucalyptus blackbutt, salmon and green gimlets; just a few examples among the twenty different species of eucalyptus. Admire the summit of Mount Pleasant overlooking the forest, visit the sheep ranch Fraser Range and go watch birds, camels and wildflowers on a walk in the bush. Drive to Newman Rocks to admire the views of the forest, the mountain and plains. It is also a good place for a picnic. Balladonia is a little further; this is where pieces of US Skylab space station crashed to earth in 1979. Spend the night in the roadhouse or in one of the camping sites attached to it.
